Ikiranka: Sydänmaa (2023)

Ikiranka celebrates Finnish Music Day on December 8, 2023, by releasing its second album, “Sydänmaa.”

“Sydänmaa” (=“Heartland”) consists of the band’s own compositions and improvisations, folk music arrangements from Lappfjärd and Jepua, as well as a borrowed piece from Oskar Merikanto. Stylistically, the music flows in its own stream between folk, ambient, and jazz. Joakim Berghäll‘s saxophone has been replaced by the bass clarinet on this album, and Juha Kujanpää plays both the reed and pipe organ. The album also features soundscapes recorded by Teemu Korpipää from Lake Inari and radio mast support cables from Pietarsaari. The title composition of the album, “Sydänmaa,” has been on the journey for several years, experimented with in different line-ups and arrangements.

We invite you to join us on a journey to Sydänmaa. We hope that the journey is a calming experience and takes you momentarily away from everyday surroundings.

Joakim Berghäll – bass clarinet
Teemu Korpipää – electronics and sounds
Juha Kujanpää – reed and pipe organ
